Common help topics

Nearby place issues

If expected points of interest are missing or inaccurate, mention where you were walking and whether location permissions were active.

Location permissions

Hike Buddy AI can begin with When In Use permission. If you later allow Always, nearby discovery and session continuity can improve when the app goes into the background.

AI provider setup

Open Settings → AI Connections, select your provider, enter its API key and run the connection test. A successful test completes AI setup.

Enhanced voice setup

Voice is configured separately under Settings → Guidance & Audio → Configure and test voice. Run the audible test before choosing Voxtral. If it fails, Hike Buddy keeps the Apple system voice available.

Missing narration or stories

The guide can deliberately stay quiet, research a place, or wait until you are closer. During an active session, tap Tell me about this place to choose a nearby place or ask about your surroundings. Manual requests also work while automatic guidance is paused.

Nearby places from the Lock Screen

When the Hike Buddy Live Activity is expanded, tap Nearby places to reopen the active session and choose what you want the guide to describe. Compact Live Activity views continue to show only essential session status.

Importing a GPX route

Open the Routes tab and import a GPX file from Files or a share sheet. Review the route and nearby places before starting, especially if you will be offline.
